The standard Reiki healing process requires clients to lie down on a massage table while wearing clothes as the practitioner maintains gentle hand contact either on or above different body areas. Practitioners work as conduits of healing energy which directs itself to targeted body areas without bodily touching being involved. Most clients describe their session experiences through reports of heat-related sensations and skin sensations and the presence of a light glimmer and deep relaxation and emotional freedom. These therapeutic sessions unfold between 45 to 90 minutes in duration.
